TKO said in an email that costs have “increased meaningfully” beyond its initial $60 million estimate. The company has said that it expects to lose approximately $30 million on the event but ses it as an investment to raise the sport’s popularity.
“UFC is funding and paying for this entire event. There are no taxpayer dollars being used outside of what would be applied towards employees’ normal duties and responsibilities,” the White House added.
A court filing noted that seven government agencies, including Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration, have “allocated significant resources and manpower” to make the event happen, but didn’t provide a specific dollar figure.
