The virus can be transmitted even before a person shows symptoms. The time between infection and the appearance of symptoms is between 1 and 14 days.
SARS and Ebola are only transmissible when symptoms appear; therefore, these outbreaks are relatively easy to contain, simply by monitoring the infected person and those who treated them. However, this is not the same with a person infected with COVID-19; they can have it before being detected, meaning they may have come into contact with countless people before the virus is identified.
